The Muse. 2025
Oil.
Lately I am inspired by beauty, vitality and joy in older people. The veneer wears thin and the soul shines through. Here, Kay invited me to paint with her the day after her 80th birthday. I call this The Muse because she doubly inspires me. A veteran artist herself, she encourages my art more than any.

My Bob. 2025
Oil.
This was my first portrait in oils - a moment of discovery. I'm much indebted to Corinne Lilyard-Mitchell for her transformative class on portraiture in oils and acrylics at Virginia Beach Art Center. Thanks to all I learned, I think this captures my husband with a depth I was never able to tap with watercolors.

America's Most Endangered Bird. 2019

I had the good fortune to hike through Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park in Florida. Here rangers do their best for the last of this shy species, the Florida Grasshopper Sparrow.

Hoot, hoot, hooray for Laura's birthday. 2017

One of a series of birds I sent to a close friend during her trying illness.
